Chamomile Essential Oil is a natural aromatic oil obtained from chamomile flowers. Roman Chamomile offers a sweet, fruity, apple-like floral aroma, while German Chamomile is recognised for its deep blue colour and rich, herbaceous scent. Both are used in perfumery, cosmetics, personal care and aromatic formulations.
Chamomile Essential Oils are valued botanical ingredients derived from two principal species: Chamaemelum nobile (Roman Chamomile) and Matricaria chamomilla (German Chamomile). Both are generally obtained through steam distillation of their flowers or flowering material.
Roman Chamomile Oil has a soft, sweet, fruity-floral aroma with apple-like nuances. Its characteristic constituents include angelic acid esters. German Chamomile Oil typically develops a deep blue to blue-green colour during distillation, associated with the formation of chamazulene from naturally occurring precursors. Its composition may also include α-bisabolol and bisabolol oxides.
The oils differ in fragrance profile and chemical composition, so they should be identified and specified separately for commercial supply.
