Coriander Seed Oil (Coriandrum sativum) is a natural volatile essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the dried, fully ripe fruits of coriander, commonly referred to as coriander seeds. The oil is generally a clear, colourless to pale-yellow mobile liquid with a characteristic sweet, spicy, fresh and mildly woody aroma.
The principal constituent of coriander seed oil is linalool, typically forming the major part of the volatile profile. Other characteristic constituents include α-pinene, γ-terpinene, camphor, geranyl acetate, limonene, geraniol and myrcene. EFSA's 2023 characterization, based on ISO 3516-derived specifications, uses linalool as the phytochemical marker and reports a defined multi-component GC profile.
Coriander Seed Oil is suitable for fine fragrance, personal care, soaps, hair care, body care and flavour applications, providing a fresh, aromatic and subtly spicy note. FDA recognizes coriander oil as a flavouring agent/adjuvant, while cosmetic ingredient references recognize coriander seed oil as a plant-derived cosmetic ingredient.
