Camphor White Oil
Camphor White Oil (Cinnamomum camphora) is a natural aromatic essential oil derived from the camphor tree. Commercial White Camphor Oil is commonly obtained through steam distillation followed by filtration and/or rectification, producing a clear, colourless oil with a strong, fresh, camphoraceous and woody aroma. A current 2026 commercial TDS identifies the botanical source as Cinnamomum camphora, with steam distillation and filtration as the processing method.
The chemical profile of White Camphor Oil is characterized principally by 1,8-cineole, d-limonene, p-cymene and α-pinene. EFSA's characterization of Taiwanese Camphor White Oil reported 1,8-cineole at 27–43%, d-limonene at 18–27%, p-cymene at 6–15% and α-pinene at 4–10%.
Because Cinnamomum camphora produces different chemical types and fractions, GC-FID/GC-MS testing is particularly important for defining the actual commercial grade. Other camphor-tree oils can be rich in borneol or other constituents and should not automatically be sold under the same specification
