Eucalyptus Oil
Eucalyptus Oil (Eucalyptus globulus) is a natural volatile essential oil obtained by steam distillation, and for commercial rectified grades, subsequent rectification, of the fresh leaves or fresh terminal branchlets of the Blue Gum Eucalyptus. The oil is generally clear and colourless to pale yellow, with a strong, fresh, sharp, cooling and characteristic cineolic aroma.
The characteristic chemical profile is dominated by 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), with limonene and α-pinene as important supporting constituents. USP defines Eucalyptus Oil as an oil obtained by steam distillation and rectification from fresh leaves or terminal branchlets of cineole-rich Eucalyptus species, with 70–95% eucalyptol; ISO 770 specifically covers Eucalyptus globulus crude and rectified oils.
Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil is recognized in cosmetics primarily for fragrance and skin-conditioning functions
