Coffee Butter

Coffee Butter is a specialty botanical butter developed by combining Coffee Seed Oil with hydrogenated vegetable fat and, depending on the grade, other vegetable oils such as sweet almond oil. A current Hallstar commercial grade is produced using coffee seed oil obtained by cold pressing roasted coffee beans and then blending it with hydrogenated vegetable oils and sweet almond oil.

The resulting butter has a pale brown appearance, characteristic roasted coffee odour and soft buttery texture. It provides emollient and conditioning properties while also contributing a distinctive coffee sensory profile to formulations. Current commercial grades are used in facial care, body care, lip care, hair care, soaps, massage products, shaving products and shower products.

Coffee-derived cosmetic ingredients are also valued because coffee seeds contain lipids and other naturally occurring compounds such as caffeine, chlorogenic acids and other phenolic constituents. However, the concentration of these compounds in a finished Coffee Butter depends strongly on the coffee oil used and the manufacturing process; they should not automatically be treated as standardized actives unless the specific grade has a supporting assay.
