Kokum Butter

Kokum Butter is a plant-derived specialty butter extracted from the kernels of the Kokum tree, Garcinia indica, a species native to western and southwestern India. The extracted fat is generally filtered and, depending on the commercial grade, refined to produce a clean, off-white butter with mild or neutral odour.

Kokum Butter is one of the firmer natural cosmetic butters and has a distinctive triglyceride profile rich in stearic-oleic-stearic (SOS) triglycerides. Hallstar's current commercial grade reports up to approximately 80% SOS triglycerides. This gives Kokum Butter good structure at room temperature while allowing it to soften and melt progressively on skin contact.

Its combination of high stearic acid, moderate-to-high oleic acid and relatively low polyunsaturated content gives it good oxidative stability and makes it particularly useful where a formulation requires body, structure and a relatively dry, non-greasy finish.
