Mafura Butter is a botanical seed butter obtained from the kernels of the Mafura tree, Trichilia emetica, native to eastern and southern Africa. It is a soft, emollient-rich butter characterized by palmitic, oleic and linoleic acids and is used in skin care, hair care, soap, body-care and conditioning formulations.
Bulk quantities and customized supply requirements are available for professional buyers.
Mafura Butter is a natural vegetable butter obtained from the kernel of Trichilia emetica. The seeds can yield two distinct lipid materials: Mafura Butter from the kernel and Mafura Oil from the fleshy seed envelope/aril. Commercial and traditional processing may separate these fractions or, depending on the processor, combine them. For a clean catalogue definition, Mafura Butter should be specified according to the actual source and processing method.
The butter is naturally rich in fatty acids, especially oleic and palmitic acids, with linoleic and smaller amounts of stearic acid. Its soft texture and relatively low-to-moderate melting range make it suitable for creams, balms, hair-conditioning products, soaps and other lipid-based personal-care formulations.
Current commercial grades are available as cold-pressed/unrefined material, while other grades are filtered or refined and some commercial blends combine Mafura Butter with other vegetable fats such as soft Shea Stearin.
