Shea Butter is a natural botanical butter obtained from the seeds/kernels of the Shea tree, Vitellaria paradoxa. It is naturally rich in stearic and oleic acids and is valued for its smooth, creamy texture, emollient properties and ability to add structure and richness to skin-care, hair-care, lip-care and solid cosmetic formulations.
Bulk quantities and customized supply requirements are available for professional buyers.
Shea Butter is a plant-derived fat obtained from the seeds or kernels of the Shea/Karité tree, native to tropical Africa. Commercial Shea Butter may be supplied in natural, unrefined, refined, deodorized, organic and higher-melting-point grades.
Natural Shea Butter is typically yellow to cream-coloured and has a characteristic fatty aroma, while refined grades are generally softer white to off-white with a much milder odour and cleaner appearance. Commercial refined Shea Butter is commonly specified with a melting range around 31–38°C, while specialized high-melting-point grades can reach approximately 40–48°C.
Shea Butter is particularly valued for its combination of stearic acid, oleic acid and a relatively high unsaponifiable fraction. Codex's regional standard for unrefined Shea Butter allows a broad unsaponifiable range of 1–19%, reflecting natural variation between sources and production regions.
