Celery Seed Oil is a volatile botanical oil obtained from the seeds/fruits of Apium graveolens, a member of the Apiaceae family.
The oil is characterized by a high proportion of monoterpene hydrocarbons, particularly d-limonene, together with sesquiterpenes such as β-selinene and characteristic phthalide compounds including sedanolide, senkyunolide and 3-butylphthalide.
The exact chemical composition varies according to geographical origin, cultivar, seed maturity and distillation process. Commercial and published analyses commonly show limonene as the major constituent, but its actual percentage can vary significantly.
