Frankincense Oil (Boswellia carterii) is a natural aromatic essential oil obtained through steam distillation of the resin of the Frankincense tree. The oil is generally clear to pale yellow and has a distinctive warm, fresh, balsamic, resinous and slightly peppery/citrus-like aroma.
The volatile composition is dominated by monoterpene hydrocarbons, particularly α-pinene, with limonene, α-thujene, sabinene, β-pinene and myrcene also commonly occurring. The exact composition varies with species, geographical origin, resin chemistry and distillation conditions, which makes batch-specific GC-FID/GC-MS profiling important for commercial quality control.
Frankincense Oil is particularly suited to fine fragrance, incense-inspired compositions, soaps, body care, hair care, personal care products and natural fragrance blends. Current cosmetic-market references list Boswellia carterii oil primarily as a fragrance ingredient, while commercial specifications also position it for personal care and perfumery.
