Cypress Oil is a natural volatile essential oil obtained from the aromatic leaves/needles of Cupressus sempervirens, commonly known as Mediterranean or Italian Cypress. The oil has a characteristic fresh, woody, green, resinous and slightly balsamic aroma, making it useful in fragrance and personal-care formulations.
The chemical profile of Cypress Oil is typically rich in monoterpene hydrocarbons, with α-pinene and δ-3-carene being the principal characteristic constituents. Other compounds such as limonene, myrcene, terpinolene, terpinen-4-ol and cedrol may occur in smaller quantities. Published analyses and commercial GC-MS batches show substantial natural variation according to geographic origin, plant material and distillation conditions.
